I got this quiz from my friend Naomi. I was only supposed to choose 5 occupations and tell what I would do if I were in that position and why, but I was having so much fun that I filled in more than was required. It was good to think about what I would do if God called me to be any one of these people. How would I use the power of my position to influence others and bring glory to God? Really set me to thinking. I hope you enjoy reading If I Could Be! =)
List of positions: If I could be a scientist... If I could be a farmer... If I could be a musician... If I could be a doctor... If I could be a painter... If I could be a gardener... If I could be a missionary... If I could be a chef... If I could be an architect... If I could be a linguist... If I could be a psychologist... If I could be a librarian... If I could be an athlete... If I could be a lawyer... If I could be an inn-keeper... If I could be a professor... If I could be a writer... If I could be a llama-rider... If I could be a mail carrier... If I could be a bonnie pirate... If I could be an astronaut... If I could be a world-famous blogger... If I could be a justice on any one court in the world... If I could be a circus ringmaster… If I could be a meteorologist...
If I could be a linguist... I would be a world-wide traveling evangelist. I would use my talent to spread the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard.
If I could be a missionary... I would live and die on the forgotten mission field of Holland. I would sacrifice my desire to be anywhere else and give everything that is in me for the depraved people of this country. I would decry the wickedness--drugs and pornography--that rules and is applauded. I would work tirelessly and pray endlessly until a revival sweeps this spiritually destitute land. I would stand on the principles of my holy Bible no matter what and not be ashamed. I would be a strength and example to the Christians in Holland who are struggling to do right. By God's grace I would see generations of Christians standing firmly on the Word of God; Baptist churches would cover the land; husbands would be ever devoted to their wives; children would be in obedience to their parents; Christian families would thrive; churches would be bursting; sinners would be under the conviction of the Holy Spirit; Holland would be set free from Satan's oppression and righteousness would prevail. If I could be a missionary I would die happy on the mission field, knowing that I gave my all. Jesus gave His live for me; can I give Him any less?
If I could be a writer... I would let the Spirit of God use my hand to write literature that would draw people to live lives that glorify God. I would write books that cause Christians to think. I would write missionary biographies that would break the hardened hearts of Christians and send them to mission fields all around the world.
If I could be a justice on any one court in the world... I would be a righteous judge. I would not accept bribes to change my decision. I would rule by the Constitution and by the Word of God, which is the Book of ultimate wisdom. Wickedness would be punished; the falsely-accused righteous would be set free. If I were judge, murderers would be executed. Tax payers would not be paying well-earned money to keep human scum alive. This backwards world declares the innocent guilty and the guilty innocent; the righteous are called wicked and the wicked are called righteous. One day the judges of the world will stand before the Supreme Judge, God Almighty, and then their unlawful decrees will be set right. The wicked will receive their dues in the fires of Hell, and the righteous will be rewarded in Heavenly bliss. I take comfort in knowing that everyone will one day be judged by the Judge who cannot be bribed. It will be an accurate ruling by an all-knowing Judge.
If I could be a lawyer... I would defend the innocent. Christians who are brought to court under false charges would have a lawyer they can count on to plead their case. I would not be like some of these rip-off artists who are only in it for the money.
If I could be a musician... I would write and play music that would be so filled with the Spirit of God that Christians would be start living like the redeemed children of God that they are; sinners would immediately fall under the conviction of the Holy Ghost upon hearing it. My music would not sound like the world in any way, shape, or form. There would be a distinct difference. I would not compromise God’s Words with the devil’s music as most well-known contemporary “Christian” musicians have done. I would give God all the glory and honor for the talent He gave me.
If I could be a painter... I would paint God’s glorious creation with a Bible verse on every painting. I would paint scenes that would cause people to think about eternity and about righteous living.
If I could be a professor... I would prove “Evil-ution” wrong (I love how the English pronounce Evolution!). I would teach all my students the truth: GOD created the world. We did not evolve from monkeys, though people would prefer to believe that since it gives them an excuse to behave worse than animals.
If I could be an architect... I would build Baptist churches and pray that they would be full and overflowing so that the building could not contain the multitudes. I would build homes and pray they would be filled with Christian families who would serve God all their days. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
If I could be a doctor… I would help sick people. I would not be in it just for the money; I would not rip people off. Not only would I help them get well physically, but I would help them get well spiritually. I would tell them about the Great Physician who can heal every sin-sickened soul that comes to Him, acknowledging that they have a real need--a need for salvation.
If I could be a farmer... I would have a place way out…far away from civilization. A long, winding dirt road would lead up to the house. I would have a large, white, house and country blue trimming. It would have a wide porch and rocking chairs with cushions on them. There would be large windows with checkered curtains blowing in the breeze. I would have lovely, colorful flowers growing around the house. In the distance you could see a purple mountain range and a lake nearby. In the quiet of the evening you could hear the reeds whispering in the wind. Back behind the house, off to one side, I would have a big, red barn with white trimming. I would have lots of chickens, a Jersey cow, a horse for Lydia, and haystacks to jump in. I’d have a golden retriever and maybe an orange barn cat for the mice. I would have an enormous garden where I would grow tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, strawberries, corn, and peppers. I would grow fruit trees all around the property. I would have a hammock where I could rest in the shade with a book and some lemonade. I would give my extra vegetables to needy people in my community. If I had a good year of crops I would give my additional money to missions and house missionaries coming back on furlough.
If I could be an inn-keeper... I would keep my inn or Bed & Breakfast tidy and clean. I would make it a shelter for weary travelers. I would let missionaries stay at a discount. It would truly be a ministry.
If I could be a chef... If I could be a chef I would make delicious food for my family and sick people I know. I would cook for special church functions, like conferences and banquets. I would use my talent to feed God’s people so they stay healthy and have strength to serve the Lord more effectively.
If I could be a psychologist... I would tell people that their supposed mental problem is not that at all--it is a heart problem. The root of every trouble they have is because of sin. When people see themselves as sinners before a righteous God everything starts falling into place. I would help people get saved.
The wonderful blessing is that I have a small part of every one of these occupations, though I do not major in any one of them!
Linguist: I know more than one language--Dutch.
Missionary: I’m serving the Lord with my parents on the mission field.
Writer: I am the writer of this blog; it’s not much, but in my limited capacity I am writing, and people are reading it.
Judge: When kids in the nursery are fighting, I decide who is right and who is wrong. Then they get punished according to what they have done. (I’m sure I’ll be doing more “judging” when I have kids of my own!)
Musician: I am our church pianist. I’ll never be world famous, but I can play for the song service, and that suites me just fine!
Doctor: I don’t have any fancy degree, but I can clean a cut, take out a splinter, and help to make people well in small ways. I can hand out vitamins and herbs that heal.
Farmer: I grow a small garden of strawberries and tomatoes, and I try to grow flowers too. =)
Inn keeper: I’m no licensed Bed & Breakfast manager, but I help to make my family comfortable and any guests at home.
Chef: I do a good deal of the cooking and baking in our home. I try to keep my family healthy by feeding them nutritious food. I cook for church functions as well.
Psychologist: I comfort and cheer saddened hearts, and I go soul winning. I try to help others with loving words…the words of Jesus Christ.
I have every one of these jobs in a small way! That makes me so happy! =)
