she has stood up for me in every crucial situation leading up to that point.

Family "PIC"nic
We are beginning to sense that fall is settling in. I just love that scent of fallen leaves. For some reason it makes me glad and also kinda sad and homesick. We decided to take advantage of the last days of nice summer weather and take a family picnic in the woods, near where my dad grew up.
We left the house later than planned--nothing new. It was the phone. I have a bone to pick with Alexander Graham Bell. Then we can't even go on a picnic without having the stupid thing ring during our family time. Oh well. We had an enjoyable time anyway. We were all famished once we finally got to the peaceful meadow in the middle of some beautiful woods. Lydia, our family photographer, had to get a few pictures for memory's sake. Josiah joked that we weren't having a picnic to have a "pic"nic. Overly hungry, he wanted the "nic" without the "pic" so he could eat. That kid is so funny!

Life is like a book, divided up into chapters. The Lord has recently opened a new chapter in my life. Things I once took for granted are becoming more important to me as I realize that time is ticking and this is my last summer with my family (notice the words on the page). Next summer I will be Russell's bride...a strange and exciting thought!

As the evening shadows fell, Lyd and I sat back to back--a natural chair. I asked her if a chair has ever told her that her back is hard. (giggle) That's why she was laughing here. She kept wiggling her shoulder bones, which tickled my back, making me laugh. Then she did it even more. I am so ticklish it should be illegal.
It was so nice. The air was the perfect temperature, hardly any wind, and there was a wonderful sense of peace. I expect this was one of the last, if not the last, picnic with my family. It is strange to think that just last summer we sat in that very meadow and had a picnic, having just gotten to know the Maynard family. I never would have dared to dream that what I wished could be true--Russell courting me--would be a reality one year later. Wow! Time sure changes things.
There's nothing quite like sitting with your favorite sister and enjoying a good book!

On the 4th
I love having pictures taken with my sister. She's so pretty. Mom took this one on...let's see...can you guess? Yup, it was the 4th of July. It's a little late, but I hope you all had a nice day. We had a barbeque with my former piano teacher. It was a very special 4th of July.

My Sister & Me
We had such a lovely spring day today. Everything is in bloom. I just love it!!! Lydia and I decided to take some pictures in our backyard. The Lord only knows how much time we have to be together, so we're trying to make memories and have fun with each other.
Other friends have come and gone, but my sister has always been true.
A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.
Sisters are flowers grown from the same garden.
Sisters share the joys of life.
