When I was a little girl my siblings and I used to use Duplo blocks to build castles and palaces, which we would fill with Playmobile furniture. Mina Oglesby, our songbird friend, was a constant companion as we played during the afternoons after school time. I would sing my little heart out along with Mina’s recordings. This song, “Lord, Build a Hedge” was my prayer for my Oma, who wasn’t saved at the time. I remember silently pleading with God for her soul as my hands were busy at play.
Years later, I can joyfully say that God heard those prayers and answered them in His perfect timing, in His own inconceivable way. It took cancer to bring Oma to the realization that life is so very short, and after death we will all give account for our every word, thought, and deed before a holy and righteous God. Oma made the eternity-changing decision to put her faith in Jesus Christ, and now I can say with all certainty that the Lord has build a very sure hedge about dear Oma, for at this moment she rests gently in the loving arms of the Heavenly Father.
Lord, Build a Hedge
By Mina Oglesby
Lord, my heart is breaking for my loved one
How I long to know she is Your own
Though I’ve prayed and tried to do my best, Lord
Now I know it’s up to You alone
Broken dreams like pieces of a puzzle
Lie upon the table of her mind
Waiting for the One who has the answers
Only Christ remembers her design
Lord, please build a hedge around my loved one
Keep her from the evil one today
Lord, please build a hedge around my loved one
Hold her in Your arms of love, I pray
Hold her in Your arms of love, I pray
Lord, You know so many of Your children
Need to learn to trust You come what may
Help us, Lord; look down in mercy, Father
Knowing we are dust with feet of clay
Lord, please build a hedge around my loved one
Keep her from the evil one today
Lord, please build a hedge around my loved one
Hold her in Your arms of love, I pray
Hold her in Your arms of love, I pray
