We have some sick guys at our home. My dad and brother have been sick for weeks seemingly. Anyway, I wrote this poem, just being what a friend of mine would call, a “goofball.” It’s also sort of a personal joke. Anyway…I’ve heard that this year has been bad as far as lots of sickness going around (thankfully the Lord has spared me). Maybe if you have sick folks at your house this poem will make you laugh and help you remember to serve cheerfully.
“For whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, he shall not lose his reward.” Mark 9:41
The Nurse
“Nurse! Nurse! I need a nurse!”
The cry causes my lips to purse.
There is no one to answer the call,
So I in that nurse’s place must fall.
Making hot cups of peppermint tea,
And handing out tablets of vitamin C;
Binding up wounds and cooling fevered brows
So that my patients from their beds don’t arouse.
Moans and groans (especially from males).
At times--I’ll admit it--my patience fails.
But those poor helpless creatures need me so badly.
And that is the truth of it, quite sadly.
So when I hear the call for a nurse,
I’ll try to remember that it’s not a curse.
Instead of seeing my task as a trial,
I’ll be a blessing and serve with a smile.

P.S. Hope I haven’t ruffled any feathers. According to my brother…“It [this poem] will make guys so mad they’ll get better.” That might be the solution. (chuckle)

Aww! Such a sweet poem, and very true. I grinned and chuckled. Thank you for the reminder of what a blessing it is to serve others, sister. I hope you all get well soon. I'm relieved that you didn't get it, Hannah! We've been a bit sick the past few weeks--just mild cases of a cold. Last week, I used my homeopathic Materia Medica (a book of symptoms and remedies) five days in a row. I can't decide if that's good or bad thing. (chuckle) My homeopathy course was such a blessing! It occurred to me just today that I want to continue my studies: if it's the Lord's will, I hope to become a naturopathic doctor in the future. It's exciting! The Lord's given me a special love for natural healing, and if helping others with their health is in the Lord's plan for me, I'm responsible to develop this talent to the greatest extent that I can with His aid. He sure is good to allow me to honor Him through things I love to do!
Love always, Naomi
If that's what it takes to get them well, I'm on it!!! some things need humor!
