Cottontail
August 18, 2003 ~ May 8, 2008
Lydia’s little bunny, Cottontail, died today, at 12:45 p.m.
It was so sad. I never thought I would cry about a dumb animal, but I surprised even myself. It was horrible watching our gentle bunny die such a painful death. I hate to see anything suffer. How I hate death! Nothing was meant to die; it’s so…unnatural.
Cottontail is buried in our backyard, her own little domain. We will never forget how sweet she was and the joy she brought to our family.
Her favorite place was the house, for some reason. Whenever the back door was open during the summer, Cottontail would cautiously sneak in. She always looked a trifle guilty when we shooed her back outside again.
Cottontail loved to be cuddled. She would snuggle down in the grass and close her big, brown eyes, as if she thoroughly enjoyed the attention. She never even bit us, except on one occasion when she mistook a finger as part of her carrot meal.
God was very good to give us such a sweet animal to care for and love. The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
