We left the house at 3 p.m. We were greeted warmly, as always, upon arriving at their house. The Kamps are so hospitable! We looked at their pretty tree, and the girls pointed out all their cute ornaments. Annika showed me her Christmas presents.
What do you think about my new hair color? I dyed it to match my outfit. (chuckle) Actually, I didn't! The lighting was just weird.
The boys went to the computer to play some games. We all sat down in the living room and talked and ate Tex-Mex dip and chips. It really hit the spot. I was hungry! Mr. Kamps read us an article about Christmas in a Canadian newspaper. Then Mrs. Kamps handed out hymnals and suggested we sing some Christmas songs. She asked if I would play, so I did. I enjoyed it! But I'm not used to playing on a short keyboard. I just love my (the church's) piano!
Then we exchanged gifts. I got a 1,000-piece Marjolein Bastin puzzle and a puzzle mat from the Kamps. It’s so neat! I love making puzzles.
The guys went to play hockey for about 20 minutes until dinner. While they were gone, all of us girls posed for a picture. I just love the Kamps' wood burning stove! It's so cozy! The heat it puts off feels wonderful!!! (I'm always cold.)
We ate dinner when the guys got home. Alisah, Grace, and I were just going out to get them when they came walking up the path. Josiah had battle wounds; poor kid! Mrs. Kamps made a delicious turkey pot pie for dinner, and Mom made the salad, mashed potatoes, and brought dessert. It was tasty. Annika sat by me. Annika is my little cutie pie! Some of the things we mutually enjoy are ice skating (I learned to skate backwards while helping her learn to skate; she's doing really well on the ice!), we like "playing puzzles" together, playing Memory, and many other things. I tease her about her little bird bones; she's a tiny little thing, just like I was when I was a little girl. After cleaning up dinner, I played with Annika's hair, which is another thing we both enjoy. She asked for a bun. Doesn't she look pretty?
The adults sat in the dining room and talked, while the rest of us sat in the living room and played games. Gracie got a Winnie the Pooh Trouble game from us and was eager to play. Annika and I played as a team, and Lydia played as well. For some reason Lyd and Grace kept getting distracted. Annika kept reminding people when it was their turn, and I think she was getting a little frustrated and bored just sitting there waiting for her/our turn. So, I played for all three of us, calling out the person's name as I played for them. That made Annika giggle. She and I won the game. I teasingly grabbed her hand in mine and raised it in victory, announcing that we were the grand winners. Then I asked her if she knew why we won. She didn't know. I teased, "Because WE played!!!" (chuckle) That does sort of help!!! Annika giggled again. Then the two of us "played" (that's what Annika calls it) some puzzles.
Mom and Dad insisted we sing "Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming" for the Kamps, so Mr. Kamps printed off the music and we sang for them. The men moved from their spot in the living room and the two moms and all of us kids played Apples to Apples. It was fun. I won, which is funny, because I had lousy cards the whole game. We often joke that the green cards describe the person who wins them. Well, mine were not complimentary! Smart (that's inaccurate), loud, foreign, phony, and earthy. (chuckle) Then Grace brought out her colored pencils and paper and we all drew together. I drew my swirly flowers. I love doodling. Poor Mom; whenever she makes a shopping list I draw flowers and butterflies and smiley faces all over it. Then she has to start a whole new list because there's no more room on the paper. (chuckle) At 9 p.m. the Kamps waved us off. It really was a nice evening!
