A Mundane Day in March

I just realized I haven’t written a journal post in ages, so I thought I’d tell you about my boring day. Let’s see if I can lull you to sleep. =)

After waking up this morning, I prayed and then read my Bible. I’m reading in Jeremiah right now, but I thought I’d read Proverbs 3 for something different. The Lord gave me some good thoughts from it. I fixed my bed, neatened my bedroom and then got ready for the day.

On top of not feeling well for various reasons, which I won’t go into--my Candida is really acting up, my usual aches and pains, I’m fighting a cold, etc.--I pulled a muscle in my neck this morning. NOT fun! It’s amazing how debilitating it is to have a muscle strain. I already wasn’t feeling well, and that seemed to make the pain I was already dealing with unbearable. I’m afraid I practically bit Josiah’s head off when he asked how I was feeling. I told him I wasn’t answering those questions because he didn’t even want to know. You know, I wake up in the morning and ask the Lord to make me cheerful and pleasant for my family’s sake, despite how horrible I feel, and then when that happens I feel so bad. If you’re on speaking terms with the Lord, please pray that I’ll have a good attitude no matter how bad I feel. Sometimes death really doesn’t seem like such a terrible thing… My new body in Heaven is looking increasingly better every day.

I made Lyd and myself an omelet for breakfast. Then we had family devotions. Right after that Dad and Joe drove Mom and Lydia downtown to go grocery shopping, and then the guys went to play hockey with the Kamps.

That left me home alone, which rarely happens. I enjoyed the quietness and the solitude. Having several hours to myself, the first thing I did was clean up the kitchen. Then I set up the sewing machine on the kitchen table and sewed the second drape of my dress. Mom and I did the first one yesterday. I ironed (and burned my finger--ouch!) and pinned while listening to Abigail Miller’s CD, “I Can Go In.” Before my family got home, I listened to it 3 times. It’s so beautiful! After sewing as much as Mom said I could, I got the laundry from upstairs, which I folded later on.

Mom had told me to relax, since I wasn’t feeling well. I curled up on the couch with my new book, America in Crimson Red, The Baptist History of America. My parents ordered the book for me for my birthday, but it only arrived just a few days ago. I know, just by reading the preface, forward, and introduction, that this is going to be an awesome book. Dad and Joe came home while I was reading. They changed out of their hockey gear, got showers, etc., and then headed back out the door to pick up Mom and Lyd. I got part way into the first chapter of my book, and then decided I was hungry for lunch…at 3 PM. Yes, this has been an odd day.

For lunch I had leftover spaghetti and homemade garlic bread. Then I emptied the dishwasher and refilled it. Bless God for a dishwasher!!! A joke the three of us girls have is that if there was anything we would consider worshipping, it would be the dishwasher, hands down. (chuckle) Anyway… I realized, once the kitchen was clean, that the fridge could use a good cleaning. I emptied it and then wiped it down with disinfectant wipes and took the vegetable and fruit/meat and cheese drawers upstairs to wash in the tub. I was bringing them downstairs when my family walked in the door. I was reprimanded by Mom for not resting. It’s hard for me to relax when things need to be done.

Lydia started making strawberry shortcake for dessert. Mom approved the work I had done on the drape while she was away, so I was allowed to sew it up. I love sewing! Then Mom and I looked at some stuff on her laptop. I just love Precious Moments! It’s too bad the figurines are so expensive. After searching the Internet for a bit, Mom came over and helped me with the drape. We gathered it into pleats, pinned it, and then Mom sewed it. Then she chatted with someone in the States. Meanwhile, the three of us kids worked on getting dinner ready. Joe peeled potatoes, Lyd cut strawberries for dessert, and I cut Brussels sprouts and kept an eye on the meat on the stove. It was nice to work together. Lydia thought it deserved a picture for memory’s sake.

The Three Little Slaves! =D

I look like a slob! (chuckle) I’m wearing my relaxation clothing--lavender sweat skirt and gray hoodie with lavender cherries scattered all over it. If you ever happen upon me while I’m wearing this outfit, you’ll know that I’m either really relaxed or not feeling well. My hair looks like a mess too, but we won't go there... (chuckle) Lydia says, “Pardon our hair.” =D

Josiah brought potatoes to the sink and held them while I washed and quickly cut them into a pot for mashed potatoes. Every time the knife got near my fingers he made a sound as though he was cringing…envisioning me cutting myself before it happened. I chuckled, telling him that I haven’t been working in the kitchen for years without knowing how to handle a paring knife. He was worried that I was going to cut my fingers, which was sweet of him to be concerned about. It is nice to know somebody loves and cares about you. I teased him a little, showing him my fingers and then reminding him that I still have all 10--possibly a little cut/scarred, burned, or bruised, but they’re all there. (chuckle)

I went upstairs to catch up on my journal. Soon Josiah called me and Dad (from his office) down to dinner. We had wiener schnitzel, mashed potatoes, and Brussels sprouts. Yummy! Everything tasted great! After dinner Dad read to us from a book we’re reading as a family called, Sanctuary, by Beverly Lewis. It’s a really neat book. Talk about adventure! Josiah loves it. Then Lydia served us her delicious strawberry shortcake. And I’m going to eat now. Talk to you all later!

I'm so sorry you've been feeling so very unwell lately. =( I can't believe you did so much work in such a condition. Your mom was right; you should've been resting, dear! You're quite a trooper. =)

Hannah H.,
What are you doing to get rid of the Candida? Have you tried anything? I would love to give you some nutritional encouragement, so you can feel better! Even though we've never met I hate to see people suffer when they don't have to.

Hello, Hannah! (I feel like I’m talking to myself. Ha!)

My mom has Candida so I guess I inherited it from her. Mom says that at this point she thinks I’m worse off than she is. Mom has kept all of us children off sugar since we were babies. We substitute honey, fructose, etc. for sugar when we bake. Also, we eat sourdough bread. So, I grew up not having sugar or yeast, for the most part. At the end of 2005 we started seeing symptoms of the Candida. Around that time I had an infection and was on antibiotics for about a week. My body was never the same after that. Things progressively got worse and worse. I’ve resolved that I’m never using antibiotics again. We’re doing things the natural way. Garlic, golden seal, etc. I get certain infections quite frequently, and by searching the internet, etc., we’ve found that there are natural ways of fighting them. It’s so neat how God made fruits, veggies, herbs and such that help our bodies. If it were up to doctors we would all be taking pills for something or another. My sister jokes that it’s all a conspiracy, and I really do believe that! Anyway, for the Candida, as far as eating goes, I’m try to avoid sweet stuff--even naturally sweetened--for the most part, and my mom and I have recently discovered that even sourdough bread is bothering us, so we’ve been making an Irish Soda Bread recipe we found on the Internet. (It’s on my recipe blog.) I take herbs, Candinorm (natural yeast-killing pills), acidophilus, and “mud.” It’s actually some kind of clay (bentonite?) that is supposed to absorb toxins….or something like that. I try to drink lots of water. That’s pretty much it. If you have any advice I’d be happy to hear it! You can reach me at missmouse1988@gmail.com. I’ll contact you from there.

Thanks! =)

Sorry you're not feeling well! I like hearing about quiet "everydays" at home - the very best kind of day :)
