My mother-in-law planned a tea party for the little girls in our church and asked me to find a craft to make with them. I researched the internet and came up with my own version of something that seemed do-able. So, on Thursday the two of us went shopping for craft supplies. The store didn't carry exactly what I needed, so I improvised a little. I took a few pictures of the back of a wood craft kit to get more ideas...
Too cute!
Hmm...something like that...
The finished product!!! I decorated my frame with cherries because I plan to hang it in my cherry kitchen. I love the verse: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. When our faith's foundation is stayed on a powerful God instead of men's wisdom, we will never be disappointed or moved!
Piecing chips together into some resemblance of an animal...
So this afternoon we had the tea party. As we waited for girls to arrive, Rylee nudged up next to me and asked slightly critically, "If yow awe mawwied, what awe yow dowing hewe?" (Translation: "If you are married, what are you doing here?") I then informed her that I was there to do a craft with the girls...and tried not to feel intimidated by a little girl less than half my age. =D In this picture she was quite pleased that red + blue = purple and thought she would share her discovery with the rest of the world (well....those who visit Hannah's blog, anyway). =D
The girls didn't know what to do with their hot tea. Rylee was attempting to rip open her tea bag before I rescued it. Anna, another little girl, was totally distressed that her tea bag was "getting wet." She was amazed that the bag had to be submerged in the hot water. These are Southern gals! Hot tea is a foreign thing down South, which is a very strange phenomenon to this Northern girl. When Russell and I order a beverage while eating out, I sometimes get tea. The waitress always asks "sweet or unsweet?" Now, in my Northern mind tea is one thing--HOT--and nobody every asks about a sweetener. But in the South tea is cold. So when I get the "sweet or unsweet" question, I always answer: "Hot!"...which kinda throws the waitress for a loop. =D I really am trying to fit in down here. But there are some things I won't give up.......
Isn't it a beautiful sight? My cup of hot tea during morning devotions. This lovely rosebud teacup is one of the many Mrs. Kamps has bought me over the years. I think of her every morning when I use it. It's one of the ways I try to maintain a "girly" feeling in a "man's world" kind of place.
The busy bigger workers... I don't know what I would have done without Grandma and Aunt Trish to help me. It was "Miss Hannah this" and "Miss Hannah that"! Very busy but very fun. Our next craft will be for fall/Thanksgiving. My brain is already going!
